Horde Mode in Gears of War E-Day
Horde mode is the beloved co-op PvE survival mode of the Gears franchise — and it returns in E-Day, reimagined for larger-scale maps. You and your squad fight wave after wave of increasingly deadly enemies, building defenses and coordinating classes to survive.
In the E-Day multiplayer beta, Horde was one of the headline modes, letting players team up against the Locust Horde in the game's UE5-powered arenas.
Classic Horde Rules (Series Standard)
- 10+ waves of escalating enemy encounters, with special boss waves.
- Team-based survival — co-op for up to 4-5 players (exact count TBA for E-Day).
- Build & fortify — barriers, turrets and fortifications bought between waves.
- Enemy types — Drones, Grenadiers, Wretches and the iconic Boomer / Corpser boss enemies.
Horde Tips for the Beta
1. Stick with your squad — Horde punishes lone wolves.
2. Save fortification currency for boss waves; walls alone won't save you.
3. Use the cover system — Gears combat is built around it, and Horde on large maps gives enemies many approach lanes.
4. Communicate roles — designate a heavy weapons player and a support player early.
